What is the 16 days activism?

WHAT IS THE 16 DAYS ACTIVISM?
* It is a WORLDWIDE Campaign to OPPOSE VIOLENCE against WOMEN and CHILDREN
* It aims to raise awareness of the NEGATIVE impact that VIOLENCE and ABUSE have on WOMEN and CHILDREN and to RID society of ABUSE PERMANENTLY

WHEN DOES THE CAMPAIGN TAKE PLACE?

The 16 Days of Activism Campaign is held from 25 November to 10 December every year
However, the success of this campaign rests on our daily individual and collective actions to safeguard our society against this cycle of abuse

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE CAUSES OF VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND CHILDREN?
* It stems from the low status of women in the home and in society
* It happens when men abuse POWER and positions of authority in order to CONTROL women and children

WHAT IS ABUSE?
Any form of behaviour that causes:

* fear
* bodily harm
* a person to do things against their will

DON'T BE A VICTIM!

* BREAK THE CYCLE OF VIOLENCE
* BREAK THE SILENCE
* KNOW YOUR RIGHTS
* ACT AGAINST ABUSE
* DO NOT LOOK AWAY!

KEY DATES TO OBSERVE IN THIS PERIOD:

25 November: International Day of No Violence Against Women
29 November: International Women Human Rights Defenders Day
1 December: World Aids Day
3 December: International Day for the Disabled
10 December: International Human Rights Day

Below is a list of things that teachers love about the June school holidays:

* We get to drink as much water as we want. Why? Because our bathroom usage is not limited to 1 minute between classes.

* We get to binge-watch Netflix or Hallmark movies.

* We get to enjoy not listening to learners say our names loudly a million times every day.

* We get to binge-read non-school related things.

* We can go shopping in the middle of the day.

* Sleeping in is a must. The alarm is turned off!

* We get to meet up with other teachers and talk about non-school things.

* Coffee. Drinking hot coffee is a luxury. Who am I kidding - drinking coffee is a luxury - how many times have you forgotten it somewhere, forgotten to drink it, or split it on yourself?

* It gives us a chance to recharge and get ready for the end-of-the-year madness that is sure to arrive.

Jaarlikse boekverdrinking

'n Mens lees in die media van verskeie gevalle waar mense amper in die see, rivier of plaasdam verdrink het, maar aan die einde van elke skooljaar is daar ook mense wat amper verdrink - die onmisbare administratiewe personeel wat die boekstore van skole beman - boekverdrinking is in hierdie geval 'n gepaste neologisme.

Afhangende watter vakke die betrokke dag geskryf word en die hoeveelheid boeke wat in 'n kort tydjie, net voordat die eksamen begin, ingehandig moet word, lei dit tot berge en berge boeke in die beperkte ruimte van die stoor. Soms steek net die neuse van die boekstoorbemanning uit! Sterkte vir 2024 se roei en stoei met die see van boeke, trek julle reddingsbaadjies aan en maak gereed om die boeke in die hawe van 2025 uit te deel.

International Day of Tolerance

Monday, 16 November 2020 is the date of International Day for Tolerance. Tolerance Day is a United Nations’ observance and is celebrated on 16 November every year since 1996. It is not a public holiday.

Tolerance is respect for other’s rights and freedom. Tolerance is not only a moral duty but also a requirement of the present era. States should legislate for equality and basic human rights for the promotion of tolerance and non-violence. Education is an important tool to pave the path for these desired results.

We should also play our role through print and social media for the respect and adoption of tolerance. Tolerance is an amazing tool that can help people of diverse religions and cultures to live together harmoniously and peacefully.

Mandlazi Shandy, 'n graad 11-leerder, is gekies as mnr. Matjhabeng Junior City Council! Baie geluk met hierdie prestasie en hou die standaard hoog! Buitumelo Leshoro van Welkom High is mej. MJC. Afrika Mokhosi en Wilhelm Erasmus is HTS se verteenwoordigers op die Matjhabeng Junior City Council vir 2014/2015 en Mandlazi Shandy, is mnr. MJC. HTS is trots op sy leerders!

Congratulations Brandon Kelly

Brandon Kelly and Siyabonga Gina recently participated in the South African National Kickboxing Championship - 9 November 2024.

Congratulations to Brandon Kelly who kept his title and in other fights he came home with 2 x gold and 1 x bronze. Fantastic fighting.

It’s Report Card Season*

The 12 items listed below will help you recognize if you are in the report card season. I hope this teacher humour post brings a smile to your face.

Think about it ... Your victory is right around the corner - don't ever give up.

Karin drove with her dad. 

They came upon a storm, and the Karin asked her father: What should I do?"

He says "Keep on driving."

Cars started pulling to the side, the storm has gotten worse.

"What must I do?" Karin asked. 

"Keep driving," her dad replied.

The storm is awful and everyone is taking off!

Her father told her, "Don't give up, just keep driving!"

Now the storm was terrible, but she never stopped driving, and soon she could see a little clearer."

After a few miles she was back on dry ground, and the sun came out.

Her father said, "Now you can pull down and get out."

She said, "But why now?"

"He said, "When you come out, look back at all the people who gave up and are still in the storm, because you never gave up, your storm is now over."

This is a testimony for anyone going through “difficult times.”

Simply because everyone else, even the strongest, give up, you don't have to ... 

If you keep going, your storm will soon be over and the sun will shine on your face again.

Farewell to a Cherished Member of Our School

Yesterday, we bid a heartfelt farewell to Mrs Tanya Viljoen, who is retiring after an incredible 10 years of dedicated service at our school.

 
Her connection to our school runs deep - spanning almost 66 years! From being a staff member, and with her father and mother also having taught and worked here, her own son that matriculated here, she embodies the spirit of our school.

We are grateful for the countless ways she has touched the lives of learners and colleagues alike. Her legacy will live on in our hearts and hallways.

 
Thank you, Tanya, for your unwavering commitment and love for our school. We wish you all the best in this new chapter of your life!
