The Free State Schools Debating Board together with the Goldfields Debating League held provincial debating trials for Lejweleputswa schools on Saturday 20 October 2018 at Unitas Secondary School.  The region’s top ranking debaters from different schools were invited to trial, only 8 juniors and 10 seniors were selected for the Free State team. From THS Welkom 6 learners were invited to participate. THS Welkom is proud to announce that three learners were selected to represent the province at the national competition which will be held at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg this December. These include: Kgosana Moeketsi (Selected for the senior team), Shaun Mmutsi (Selected for the senior team) and Thato Manaka (Selected for the junior team).The school wishes them the best of wishes throughout for the competition.

Department Road Safety Debating Competition

Thato Manaka grade 9 was selected to represent the Lejweleputswa district in the Department Road Safety Debating Competition in Aldam (Ventersburg). He was the only one selected from HTS Welkom. He has been selected to represent the Free State province at the national Road Safety debating competition which will feature the best speakers from the country.

Viva Tekkies se debatspan!

HTS se debatspanne kook. Duidelik is hulle nie op die mond geval nie en staan hulle ook nie met 'n mond vol tande as daar van hulle verwag word om hulle sê te sê nie.

Die junior span (HTS se tweede span) het twee van hulle drie rondes gewen. Die senior span (Tekkies se eerste span) het 'n derde plek in die toernooi losgepraat. Thato Manaka, 'n graad 9-leerder, is deel van die eerste span en hy is aangewys as die derde beste spreker in die senior afdeling van die toernooi. Al die skole in die Goudveld het aan die toernooi deelgeneem wat Saterdag by Hentie Celliers gehou is.

Baie geluk aan die span, maar 'n ekstra geluk en dankie aan hulle afrigter, mnr. Lesala Khetheng.
