Looking back over the past two years we can declare that the Mathematics in Action has been a huge
success and there is much appreciation for every school that has participated. We have had positive
feedback about the Maths Fun Days that was held at the different universities in 2015. The report is
attached for your perusal.
We trust that your school will again participate, or for the first time, and bring the arrangements to
your attention.
• Mathematics-in-Action (Wiskunde-in-Aksie) for 2016 takes place nationally.
• Learners write the paper on Wednesday 27 July 2016 at their school.
• Those 30 learners who perform best in each region will be invited to attend an enriching Maths
Fun Day, presented at their closest university campus.
• The Maths Fun Day takes place during 10 and/or 17 September 2016 in the different regions:
Pretoria (UP); Johannesburg (UJ); Potchefstroom (NWU); Bloemfontein (UFS); KwaZulu-Natal
(UKZN); Stellenbosch (US), Western Cape (UWC); Wellington (CPUT) and Port Elizabeth
(NMMU). More information will be provided at a later stage.
• Cash prizes: 1st place: R1 000; 2 awarded on the basis of participation during the Fun Day).
ENTREES
(1) All grade 6 and grade 7 learners are invited to participate in this year. Participants will all write the same paper, for which no preparation is required, and they all receive a certificate of participation.
(2) There is a participation fee of R55 per learner.
(3) The paper is written on Wednesday 27 July 2016 from 14:00-15:00.
Each learner will have one (1) hour to complete the paper.
(4) The paper comprises 40 multiple-choice questions and two short questions.
(5) The entree form must be completed and submitted electronically at the following link:

(6) Please e-mail a once-off proof of payment for all the learners simultaneously to the office of the
