THS WELKOM DEBATING EXCELS IN FREE STATE PROVINCIAL COMPETITION

Corruption Watch in partnership with Debate Afrika hosted the 2nd edition of the Model Youth South Africa (MYSA) Schools challenge at the University of the Free State, in which some of the best schools from across the Free State Province participated in a 3-stage public speaking, policy and debate challenge.

The THS Welkom Debating Team took part in this completion. From the team, ten learners were send to Bloemfontein over three weekends to compete in the Debate Afrika competition. The team pulled off an excellent performance among the best in Free State. Out of the two teams registered from THS Welkom. One team won the Overall runner up Trophy for the whole competition, Kgosana Matee, Tumelo Motlalane, Rethabile Molelekoa, Kamohelo Chaka and Shaun Mmutsi.

Kamohelo Chaka won the Best Policy-essay Trophy and Rethabile Molelekoa the 2nd Best Public Speaking Trophy. The second team, although their essay was not read, due to electronic faulty at the University, they won gold medals for excellent achievements as a team.
