Basketball

This year the team did not play a lot of league matches.

The team won 7/9 matches in the league. The league has not ended though, so we are still keen to see the result.

The Free State Basketball Association held provincial trials for the first time this year on the 19th of March 2016 at Navalsig High School in Bloemfontein. Of those who attended Neo Sobayeni was selected for U/16 Basketball team, Mosa Gumede was selected as a reserve for the U/16 team and Kearabetswe Mohale was selected for the U/18 team. However the games have not been played. We are still awaiting information about the national competition.

On the 7th of May 2016 the THS Basketball team was invited to Lereko High School in Bloemfontein, for the Lereko Annual Basketball tournament. The team made it to the semi-finals and won bronze (3rd place) in the tournament.

June came with another tournament; the first annual NWU U/19 Basketball Tournament, hosted by the North West University Vaal Triangle Campus. THS Welkom was the only team from Lejweleputswa. The tournament proved to be an eye opener for our players.

In September the FSBA together with the Department of Sport held Lejweleputswa district U/18 Basketball trials at Welkom High School. Neo Sobayeni (15) was selected for the U/18 Lejweleputswa team which competed at the provincial competition on the 1st of October 2016 at Welkom High school.

On the 1st October 2016 Neo Sobayeni (representing the Lejweleputswa district) was selected for the U/18 Free State team to compete at the national competition in December.

We appreciate the support we have received from everyone throughout the year and thank all our basketball players for their commitment and dedication throughout the year.
