BEST CULTURAL PERFORMANCE 2018 – Kanya Gojo
Kanya (12B) has maintained an outstanding cultural performance and commitment throughout the year. He has competed and excelled at district, provincial and national level before, this year was no different!
Kanya served as a Junior Executive Mayor, RCL chairman, an active member of the School Governing Body, a Blood Donor Representative for the South African National Blood Service and a Bookstore prefect.
He participated in the CANSA shaveathon and raised awareness for CANSA where he received an appreciation certificate for valuable volunteerism. The shaveathon was held at Goldfields Mall.
He is an Executive Member for ATOMS (a group of demi-tutors that offer help to learners getting low marks in Mathematics and Science). He competed in SAGE, an entrepreneurship competition for teenagers with running businesses, he was placed second in the school competition and also participated at SAGE provincials.
Kanya completed both Junior and Senior Phases in the Junior City Council: A nonprofit organization aimed at helping the youth and looking after the community. He ensured that the community is aware of the Junior City Council by involving parents in the JCC, organized an awareness interview for the JCC with the ROCK FM and collaborated the JCC with the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund all in an effort to make Lejweleputswa better for all teenagers and children. Kanya just finished his term as an Executive Mayor of the Matjhabeng Junior City Council.
Kanya is a DUX learner, an RCL chairman and the Executive Mayor of the Junior City Council for the term of 2017/18. He is the first learner in THS history to hold all three of these positions.
He was also awarded a certificate from the ROTARY Youth Leadership, an organization known internationally for the development of leadership skills; for successfully reaching the outcomes of the principals of leadership.
Only three candidates were selected in the district. Kanya was the only learner selected from THS.
He serves as a representative of the "Save a child" organization. An organization that is also funded by the Nelson Mandela Childrens Fund. This organization gives young people the platform to address and question political leaders, in parliament with regards to childrens rights and how they are being violated. Kanya used this platform most effectively, as one of the political leaders said: "You are destined to take South Africa to greater heights." He was the only candidate to be selected in the entire region. The child Led Imbizo was held in Johannesburg.
Kanya was awarded the best chess player floating trophy in grades 10 and 11, for not only showing up at practice every day, or defending Board 1(Highest Chess position) excellently, but for never giving up in all his games and always striving till the end.
-In 2017, he qualified again to participate at the South African Junior Chess championships. Played Board 1(Highest Board at National Level) Meaning that he was ranked first in the Lejweleputswa region. Kanya’s team won first place for the team section and received a trophy for best overall team in the B-section of u/16 ranked fourth amongst other Board 1 players in the B-section with 4 wins, 2 losses and a draw.
-Chess Schools (Lejweleputswa region) league: always performed exceptionally well. In 2017 the school chess team made it to the provincials and he still played Board 1 and won all his games and the team obtained third place overall.

U voorsien.

Nceba Mgojo is 'n Tekkie in murg en been. Hy was 'n leerder by HTS en tans is hy 'n onderwyser by sy Alma Mater. Nceba, mag jou musiektoekoms blink!!!

Stuk-stuk kry die skool 'n nuwe baadjie ...
Verf is 'n wonderlike ding ...

is Alex Manese.
